F.X. Matt Brewing Company Releases Saranac Cold Brew Coffee Lager
The F.X. Matt Brewing Co., brewer of Saranac's line of craft beers, is introducing a new style, Cold Brew Coffee Lager in June, 2016. This style was inspired by the recent trend in cold brew coffee, which is brewed cold (as opposed to being brewed hot and then iced).
Cold Brew Coffee Lager is a coffee beer unlike any other. Cold brew coffee is less acidic than normal coffee: lower acidity coffee combined with lower acidity beer (lager) creates an easy-drinking flavor profile, allowing consumers to enjoy more than one. Not only does the cold brew difference show up in the flavor, but the beer also has a surprising color - it looks like your average amber lager.
F.X. Matt Brewing is excited by the potential for this product because it appeals to all types of beer drinkers. Craft beer enthusiasts are impressed by the delicate balance of flavors, and the average beer drinker can really appreciate the smoothness - very easy-drinking for a flavorful beer. Nick R. Matt (Saranac Brand Manager) said "We've showcased Cold Brew Coffee Lager at beer festivals and the responses we've been getting are tremendous."
The beer was made in collaboration with Paul DeLima a premier specialty coffee roaster out of Syracuse, NY. "Saranac is a New York State brand and supporting local is something our business relies on heavily" as stated by Fred Matt (President of the Saranac Brewing Co.). Saranac sources many of its products and services from its home state and understands that staying local reduces the company's carbon foot print and is vital to the economic growth of New York State.
Saranac Cold Brew Coffee Lager is 5.2% alcohol by volume and is lower in IBUs, 20. It's brewed with Pilsner, Vienna, Munich, and Caramunich malts and Magnum, Hallertau Mittelfruh hops. Medium in color and crisp and full in mouthfeel, pairing well with BBQ, roasted or smoked meats and chocolate. Consumers (21+ years of age) will be able to enjoy this beer in cans (6-packs or 12-packs) and in draft.
