American Heart Association Pays Tribute to Dedicated Volunteers

Jul 1, 2015 - The Greater Utica Division of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association honored 20 individuals and organizations at its annual Leadership Volunteer Awards Ceremony Friday morning. All of the award recipients have played a crucial role in helping the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association improve the health of the Greater Utica area community. These volunteers, companies, and local leaders help emphasize that “life is why” we do our important work.

Brooks & Dunn Drummer, Trey Gray, to Visit the Sitrin Health Care Center

Jul 1, 2015 - On July 9 and 10, celebrity musician Trey Gray, most famous for his 20-year career as a professional drummer for artists such as Faith Hill, Brooks & Dunn, and Jewel, as well as his best friend, music industry professional Doug Michael, will visit the Sitrin Health Care Center, which earlier this year announced an expansion that will establish Upstate NY’s only Neurodegenerative Disease Specialty Unit Program for individuals with Huntington’s Disease (HD), ALS, and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Jul 1, 2015 - The 24th annual Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) Foundation Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals Telethon aired Wednesday, May 27, 2015, on WKTV NewsChannel 2. The Telethon raised $522,618, which will be used to support programs, services and equipment that benefit Maternal Child Services at FSLH.

St. Elizabeth Family Medicine Residency Graduates Doctors

Jul 1, 2015 - Ten doctors graduated from the St. Elizabeth Medical Center’s (SEMC’s) Family Medicine Residency on Friday, June 26, bringing the total number of family physicians completing the nationally accredited, three-year, postdoctoral training program to 257. The program is an affiliate of Mohawk Valley Health System.
Residency Program Director, Mark Warfel, DO, FAAFP, and Senior Vice President, Albert D’Accurzio, MD, presented awards.

This summer season, the American Heart Association encourages families to be prepared for summer safety by learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR. With the swimming season and hot weather upon us, people should be prepared to act in case of a medical emergency.

Adirondack Railroad Preservation Society Wins in Court

Jun 25, 2015 - The Adirondack Railroad Preservation Society is pleased that a request for an injunction that would have prohibited the Adirondack Scenic Railroad from operating over a section of track near Lake Colby, New York, was denied yesterday morning in Franklin County Supreme Court. The request was made in a lawsuit commenced by the Lake Colby Association. According to its website, Nancy Keet is the President of the Lake Colby Association, and Lee Keet is its Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors.

Jun 25, 2015 - The American Heart Association is recognizing 15 Utica-area organizations as Fit-Friendly Worksites. Each company promotes physical activity and health in the workplace. Through the Fit-Friendly Worksite designation, the American Heart Association works locally with area employers on their wellness and health programs. These 15 companies are being recognized for efforts in the most recent application period.
