Griffo announces upcoming notification system to alert public of dropping water levels at Hinckley Reservoir

Jul 31, 2015 - UTICA – State Senator Joseph Griffo announced Thursday that residents and visitors of Hinckley Reservoir will soon be able to sign up to be alerted anytime there is a change in water levels.

The Canal Corporation has informed Griffo that they will soon be extending to the Hinckley Reservoir their existing “Notice to Mariners” notification system, which will send either email or text message alerts to anyone who chooses to sign up for the free service through the Canal Corp’s website.

Jul 31, 2015 - New Hartford, NY – Sangertown Square’s 4th Annual Job Fair will take place Monday, August 3, 2015 from 3pm – 7pm.

Job seekers can connect with their favorite stores that are currently hiring as Sangertown Square merchants gear up for the upcoming holiday season. Candidates are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes and dress in business attire. Participating stores will have hiring areas by their store entrances throughout the center.

Stores participating in the job fair include, Target, New York & Company, Victoria’s Secret, Hot Topic, Gap, and more.

Jul 30, 2015 - The American Hockey League announced today that Utica Comets broadcaster Brendan Burke has been selected as the recipient of the James H. Ellery Memorial Award for the 2014-15 season.

The James H. Ellery Memorial Award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding media coverage of the American Hockey League. It was first presented in 1964-65 and honors the late Jim Ellery, who served the AHL for 17 years as league secretary and publicity director until his death in 1964.

Burke, the Comets’ vice president of operations, has become the voice of hockey in Utica and an ambassador for the team throughout the region since its return to the league in 2013. Burke’s energy and passion resonate with the Comets’ devoted fan base, and he promotes the team and the AHL through his game broadcasts as well as appearances on local and national radio and television outlets.

Utica Zoo hires Director of Animal Operations

Jul 28, 2015 - Utica, NY – Utica Zoo is pleased to announce Chris H. Grassl as their new Director of Animal Operations. Grassl is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin and brings over 18 years of experience working in the Zoo industry. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree with a minor in Captive Wildlife Management from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Grassl then spent two years working for the US Forest Service in Arizona fighting wildland fire before starting his zoo career. He was most recently the Animal Health Records Manager at the Kansas City Zoo in Kansas City, Missouri where he was there for three years. Prior to Kansas City, he also worked at: Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Dallas Zoo and The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore.

Sitrin Health Care Center Hosts Second Annual Warrior Retreat for Veterans, Families

Jul 27, 2015 - NEW HARTFORD – On Friday, July 31, nearly 100 veterans and their families will pitch tents and start collecting firewood for Sitrin’s Second Annual Warrior Retreat, a free weekend of camping and team-building experiences at Camp Sitrin.
The Warrior Retreat, which will take place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, will include activities for all ages, such as fly fishing, boat races, capture the flag, archery, and Irish dancing demonstrations. In addition, adults will have the opportunity to share their military service experiences at group activities.
